It’s not news. We are in the middle of a pandemic. While you may be tired of hearing about the coronavirus, it’s not something that will just disappear and never be heard of again. The best way of processing this overload of information is to learn from it. Another good way to run away from it is to enjoy a night (or day) out on the town enjoying the bar and restaurant scene in Old Town. While you try your best to avoid the news it is important to be safe, here are the five best practices for going out during the pandemic.

  1. Follow the CDC’s COVID Guidelines

We have all heard it a million times. Wash your hands, don’t touch your face, put your mask on, cover your nose. While hearing these words again may be putting you on the verge going insane, they are useful in keeping you safe, your party safe, and other people safe. While it may be annoying to wear your mask everytime you need to use the restroom or order a drink from the bar, grandma Peggy will be very happy to know that her favorite grandson or granddaughter is following the CDC’s COVID Guidelines.

2. Stay with Your Group

Staying safe in a world where spending more than 15 minutes with someone new could bring you two weeks of quarantine is an introvert’s dream. Noone new to meet or talk to and worst case scenario they get to spend two weeks in a lonely oasis that is their bedroom. But if you’re one of the social types and you do go out, stay away from that cute guy or girl on the other side of the bar, they don’t need another drink. Stick with your group of people. A big key to limit the spread of COVID-19 is to limit the amount of people you are in contact with. Think of going out at this time as an elementary school field trip, the group you are assigned to, is the group you will stay with until the day (or night) is done.

3. Sanitize

Sanitizing kind of falls in the first practice we talked about of “COVID Guidelines”, but this one has its own importance. Bring your own bottle of sanitizer, although all the employees should be COVID-free prior to starting their shift, you can never be too careful. Think, also, about the amount of surfaces that you touch on an average night out that hundreds of other people will touch as well. Anytime you leave your table you should apply hand sanitizer upon your return. The CDC recommends that your sanitizer should have 60 percent alcohol content for it to be the most beneficial.

4. Try Outdoors

This one is simple and if the weather permits might even lead to a more enjoyable experience. If you have the option to sit outside, do it! A night on the town with your best friends and a nice breeze of fresh air rushing over you. Being outside allows better airflow and better social distancing than an ordinary bar or restaurant.

5. Have Fun!

My final tip for going out might be the most important: remember to have fun! The whole point of heading out for a night on the town is to have fun, so make sure you do. This pandemic has been a drag for everyone, but as we learn safer and more efficient ways of getting back to normal life it is important to remember to enjoy your time. Although these may be unprecedented times (I’m tired of hearing that too) we can’t forget to live our lives and do the things we want as long as we continue to operate safely.
